Investigating Osteoporosis and Skeletal Fragility: From Diagnosis to Treatment Monitoring

Investigating Osteoporosis and Skeletal Fragility: From Diagnosis to Treatment Monitoring

Includes a Live Web Event on 11/16/2026 at 10:00 AM (EST)

Supported by a donation from Amgen.

Join us for a webinar series highlighting chapters from the 10th Edition of the Primer. As part of this initiative, a derivative eBook has been developed focusing specifically on metabolic bone issues in orthopedics. The webinar series serves as a companion educational offering, further highlighting key content from the eBook. This webinar focuses on section IV, “Investigation of Metabolic Bone Diseases.”

In this webinar, Drs. Richard Eastell, Marian Schini, and Tatiane Vilaca present, "Investigating Osteoporosis and Skeletal Fragility: From Diagnosis to Treatment Monitoring."

Learning Objectives:
1. Assess fracture risk following a fragility fracture, incorporating fracture recency, clinical risk factors, FRAX and bone mineral density (BMD).

2. Use and interpret dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) appropriately in the assessment of osteoporosis, including recognition of important limitations and artefacts.

3. Recognize and diagnose vertebral fractures, using vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) and the algorithm-based qualitative (ABQ) approach to distinguish vertebral fracture from non-fracture deformity.

4. Investigate patients with skeletal fragility for underlying disorders, integrating clinical assessment, biochemical testing and appropriate use of specialist investigations.

5. Use bone mineral density and bone turnover markers to monitor osteoporosis treatment, including interpretation of changes in BMD, PINP and CTX and their roles in assessing treatment response and adherence.
