MD
Dr. Sundeep Khosla is the Dr. Francis Chucker and Nathan Landow Research Professor of Medicine and Physiology and a Mayo Foundation Distinguished Investigator. Dr. Khosla received his A.B. degree from Harvard College and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He was subsequently a resident in Internal Medicine and a fellow in Endocrinology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1988 he moved to Mayo Clinic, where his research has focused on mechanisms of age-related bone loss and osteoporosis. Dr. Khosla has served as Director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Dean for Clinical and Translational Science at Mayo Clinic. He has also served as Chair of the NIH SBDD Study Section, on the Councils of the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, and as President of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR). Dr. Khosla has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the Frederic C. Bartter Award for Clinical Investigation and the William F. Neuman Award for Outstanding Scientific Contributions from the ASBMR, the presentation of the Louis V. Avioli Plenary Lecture at the ASBMR annual meeting, the Outstanding Clinical Investigator Award and Plenary Lecture from the Endocrine Society, the Frontiers in Science Award from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the Jacobaeus Prize for outstanding research in Endocrinology, and election to the ASCI and AAP. Dr. Khosla has served as the Editor-in-Chief of Bone, as Associate Editor of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research and as a member of the editorial boards for the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Bone, and Endocrine Reviews.

Dr. Greenblatt will present on, "Getting Started with Performing Single Cell RNASeq Analyses on Musculoskeletal Cells" and Dr. La Manna will lead an interactive session where he will guide attendees step-by-step on how to do basic programming to generate a map of cell clusters and identify some top genes expressed by each cluster using a small data set.

Dr. Marco Brotto is the George W. & Hazel M. Jay Endowed Professor and Director of the Bone-Muscle Research Center at the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a clinician-scientist with expertise in muscle physiology, cell biology, and translational research models. His work spans experimental platforms ranging from intact muscle and single-muscle fibers to FDA-aligned analytical chemistry approaches. In this webinar, Dr. Brotto will discuss key concepts in muscle–bone crosstalk and highlight how lipidomics and metabolomics can be used to identify blood, serum, fat, muscle, and tissue biomarkers of age-related decline in musculoskeletal function, including osteosarcopenia, as well as other musculoskeletal disorders.

After studying biochemistry and medicine in Berlin and Hamburg Uwe Kornak did his PhD at the Center for Molecular Neurobiology Hamburg, where he started working on osteopetrosis. After that, he did a postdoc in Paris before joining the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics and the Institute for Medical Genetics at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin in 2003. After establishing a research group at the BIH Centre for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) and the Charité he finished his clinical specialization in human genetics and became Professor for Mechanisms of Genetics Diseases in 2011. He was deputy director of the institute of Medical Genetics and Human Genetics at Charité and of the genetic diagnostics department at Labor Berlin GmbH. In 2020 he moved to the University Medical Center Göttingen to become head of the Department for Medical Genetics at the Institute of Human Genetics, where he established an interdisciplinary Center for Rare Skeletal Disorders. Uwe Kornak participated in many national and international research consortia on rare skeletal and metabolic disorders. After he had participated in the identification of numerous genes for skeletal disorders he is now focussing on diagnostics, disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies.

Dr. David Scott is a professor at the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at Deakin University. His research is aimed at reducing the disease burden of sarcopenia, osteoporosis and obesity in older adults.
He has led several clinical trials exploring the effects of exercise and nutrition interventions, including weight loss, on improving body composition, physical function and bone health in older populations. He has a keen interest in objective assessments of physical activity and musculoskeletal imaging and the use of digital health tools to support healthy and independent aging.

Dr. Jakub Mesinovic is a research fellow at the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at Deakin University. His research focuses on improving metabolic and musculoskeletal health in older adults with obesity.
He has led and contributed to clinical trials and meta-analyses examining the effects of exercise, energy restriction, and vitamin D supplementation on body composition, physical function, and bone health. He has a particular interest in musculoskeletal imaging - including DXA and HR-pQCT - and strategies to optimize weight loss while preserving muscle and bone mass in later life.
